Our vision and values.
Introduce members to a wide range of films, from mainstream hits to independent and international cinema.
Create a safe, engaging space for thoughtful discussions and respectful debates about the films we watch.
Facilitate meaningful connections between students, helping them find their "circle" outside of academic life
Provide a platform for students, especially those in Interaction Design and related fields, to explore visual storytelling and creative critique.
"Being friends is even better than honey. I know."
-Winnie the Pooh, of course
All discussions, debates, and critiques must be conducted with mutual respect and kindness. While we encourage healthy disagreement, personal attacks, condescending language, or any form of harassment will not be tolerated. Remember, we are here to celebrate film together.
We encourage open sharing of thoughts and feelings about films, but members must respect the privacy of their peers. Do not share personal details discussed within the club outside of our meetings without explicit permission.
We value your time and the time of others. Please try to arrive promptly for scheduled screenings and discussions. If you commit to a club role or task, please follow through responsibly.
Some films may contain challenging or mature content. While we strive to provide a diverse selection, we will always aim to give a content warning before viewing potentially sensitive material. If you are uncomfortable with a film selection, you are always welcome to opt-out of viewing it—your presence and participation in the discussion are what matter most.
Please ensure you clean up your personal area before leaving the meeting space. This includes disposing of all trash (popcorn bags, drink containers, wrappers, etc.) in the designated bins. Keeping our shared space clean helps us maintain a comfortable environment for everyone.
All Film Garden activities and members must comply fully with the Sheridan College Student Code of Conduct and all campus policies.
As the club's President, Anya oversees all club operations, leads executive meetings, and acts as the primary liaison with the Sheridan Student Union. She founded Film Garden to bridge the creative gap between different programs and build community. Anya’s Pick: "I love films that blend stunning visuals with deep emotion, like the works of Denis Villeneuve or Park Chan-wook. My absolute favourite film, which we screened last semester, is Portrait of a Lady on Fire. It’s a masterclass in direction and cinematography."
Liam is the creative force behind our weekly schedule. He is responsible for curating the diverse film selections, organizing special-themed movie nights, and securing the best viewing locations on campus. Liam’s pick: "I'm a massive fan of classic cinema and obscure documentaries. You’ll usually find me advocating for a deep-dive into German Expressionism or early Tarantino. My current obsession is the entire body of work by Studio Ghibli, especially Spirited Away."
Sarah manages all our outward-facing content, including the website updates, social media posts, and the weekly meeting reminders. She ensures every member knows what we’re watching and where we’re meeting. Sarah’s pick: "I'm always watching something new, but I have a huge soft spot for sharp, witty screenplays, especially in the comedy and mystery genres. For me, nothing beats the perfectly plotted twists and ensemble cast of Rian Johnson's Knives Out."
